After three straight days of an extreme heat alert in Toronto, I saw the tweet below from one of our twitter followers @WeAreBirchCliff.
It’s a photo of the line-up at Blantyre Pool in the midst of yesterday’s heat wave.
It reminded me of the image below that I came across this week when researching the story Cooling off in Birch Cliff. My question: What’s wrong with this picture?
When Metropolitan Toronto amalgamated in 1998, each municipality contributed its existing infrastructure to the whole. The former city of Scarborough clearly hadn’t invested as much money into outdoor swimming pools as the other municipalities. And now we live in an era of cutbacks when swimming pools are considered a frill. Still, doesn’t seem quite right.
