This ain’t your grandma’s church fundraiser.
Cynthia Stretton, the new minister at Birchcliff Bluffs United Church has graciously offered to shave her head as part of a fundraising campaign to raise $5,000 for the church.
If the campaign raises more than its target, Gail Barkic, Coordinator of Churches by the Bluffs Food Bank, has also offered to have her head sheared.
The Reverend has a sense of humour
In its promotional material, the church is drawing comparisons between Rev. Stretton and Geraldine Granger, the minister on the award-winning BBC sitcom “The Vicar of Dibley”, noting the following similarities:
- Both female ministers
- Both committed to their faith
- Both serving small ministries in their communities
- Both determined to be relevant in today’s world
- Both innovative, caring and thoughtful AND
- Both with a sense of humour
Presuming the campaign reaches its goal, the head shaving will take place at noon on Sunday, July 6th after the church service.
