Taylor Library’s 50th

Taylor Memorial Library's 50th anniversary

A steady stream of well-wishers stopped by Taylor Memorial Library yesterday to celebrate the library’s 50th anniversary

It was a gathering reminiscent of the garden parties they used to hold on the front lawn of the library before it was rebuilt in 1985.

There was a birthday cake and entertainment was provided by classical guitarist Onofrio Virda as well as highland dancers.

A slideshow depicted the library’s history going back to 1962, when Fred Taylor donated his private home to the old city of Scarborough so the people of Birch Cliff could have a local library.

Congratulations Taylor Memorial!  Photos below.

  1. Bill/Buddy Baker says:

There was an error in the Taylor slide show. Taylor’s Drug Store was and the building still is on the southwest corner of Birchcliff Ave. and Kingston Rd., not southeast.

  2. William Mewes says:

The 1964 Telephone Directory ( Yeah know it’s time I got a new one )
Shows Talyor’s Drug Store as being at
    1649 Kinston Road . Telephone OXford 1-5952
That would be where Scarborough Interiors is now.
