Our photo of the day for Sept. 13, 2012 is of the apartment building at 1711 Kingston Road on the southeast corner of Harding Boulevard.
It was taken in 1964 by William Mewes, who lived in the building.
You can see that Kingston Road looks unusually wide in this photo and I figure that’s because the parkette that’s across the street now wasn’t yet a green space.
I found William’s photo on the great facebook site Vintage Toronto and started chatting with him. When he saw our post on the old Taylor Library he mentioned that there used to be a moose head on the right side of the door and he liked to pat it when he entered the library.
I’m thinking Taylor must have been the only library in Toronto with taxidermy.
My Mother informs me that there was a Gas Station directly across the street.
( at one time it seems like there was a Gas Station on every corner)
Dad would have been standing on the Gas Station lot when he took this picture that explains the absence of any curb. BTW slight correction Dad took the photo not me. That is my Sister and I in the picture.
