This development at the southwest corner of Kingston and Birchmount was controversial in the beginning.
I’m wondering what everybody thinks of it now.
Do we need more of this kind of thing along Kingston Road?

An enthusiastic crowd of more than 200 people gathered on Saturday to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Branch 13 of the Royal Canadian Legion on Kingston Road.
Two more affordable apartment buildings in Birch Cliff have been targeted for redevelopment, which means there are now four proposed “demovictions” in the neighbourhood affecting tenants in a total of 155 rental units.
Opposition is muted to a comparatively modest eight-storey condo building proposed for 1161 Kingston Rd. at Courcelette Road, the current site of Spiros & Sons gas station.
A community association meeting will be held on Wed. Dec. 9 to discuss the ten condominium projects underway or pending in Birch Cliff, including Lenmore Court, where tenants have been told they will be displaced.
Plans to build a 100,000 sq. foot big box retail store in the Quarry Lands on the northeast corner of Victoria Park Ave. and Gerrard St. have been scrapped because the City of Toronto has been unable to find a suitable retail tenant, despite years of trying.

YES !!! We do need more of this !!!!! I get so frustrated with people who want development that fits their own exact niche of what is acceptable. Let’s take a look at the properties along Kingston Road. The new developments ( and some of the older) are well kept and enhance the look of the neighbourhood. It is very difficult to take any pride or pleasure in buildings that owners have let decay and neglect with accumulated garbage, hand made signs, dead vegetation and graffiti,such as Lee’s Garage. Development means changes and within reason these changes may very possibly mean higher density or taller buildings. Sometimes these limits exceed what is reasonable and those checks need to be done, however, in turn residents need to be reasonable as well. Developers are in the business to make money not to altruistically “enhance” neighbourhoods. Let’s be thankful that they show an interest and reasonably consider options.
I have to agree with Cindy! Such a nice looking row of homes…even the ones on the south east side….Lee’s garage, the vacant garage by the co-op are truly eye-sores….If Kingston Rd. had the face-lift it truly needs, perhaps treasures like “Rosemary and Thyme” tea room would be able to stay.
Change is good if we could all look at the bigger picture.
