The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has released the 2011/2012 results for standardized testing in public schools.
The tests measure the reading, writing and math capabilities of students in Grades 3 and 6, as well as the math skills of Grade 9 pupils.
Tests are controversial
The EQAO tests have been controversial since they were first implemented in 2000 as a diagnostic tool to improve teaching and learning.
Some criticize the stress on children, the efficacy, and the cost of the tests. There are also concerns about “teaching to the test” and cheating.
Nonetheless, parents are usually interested and so we’ve posted the EQAO results for our local elementary schools:
