A public meeting will be held on Mon. Nov. 13 at 6:30pm at St. Nicholas Anglican Church to solicit community input into the new condominium complex planned for the north side of Kingston Rd. between Warden Ave. and Manderley Dr.
The property was purchased by Core Development Group in January, which plans to build a mid-rise retail/condo building on half of the retail strip, between the alley and Manderley.
The planned development led to the closure of seven businesses including The Salvage Shop, Beckers, Mayfair Custom Upholstery and New Energy Muay Thai. Wimpy’s restaurant is still operating for the time being but it will be closed as well.
“What we’re doing is we are planning to develop the site at Kingston and as a mid-rise mixed-use use condo buildings so there’d be retail upgrade and condominiums above,” said Ken Wilcox, Core’s development manager. “Our intention is to put into place what has been outlined in the Birch Cliff quick urban design guidelines. So we’re taking that as the starting point and we’re going to build upon that.”
The guidelines are laid out in the 2008 Kingston Rd. revitalization study, which calls for a “vibrant, mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented main street with beautiful streetscapes, high quality architecture, compatible development and economic prosperity.”
