Toronto Police are looking for a suspect after a dog was shot south of Danforth Rd. and west of Kennedy Rd.
The dog was shot outside an apartment building near Raleigh and North Bonnington shortly after midnight.
Police say the dog had been let out by its owner and quickly began barking at something behind the building.
Police say the dog’s owner then heard a bang, followed by whimpering.
When the owner discovered the dog had been shot in the back, he called 911.
Dog put down
With full lights and sirens, police rushed the dog to a veterinarian at Birchmount and Ellesmere, but the dog had to be put down.
The Emergency Task Force and the K9 unit spent an hour investigating at the scene but were unable to locate a suspect.
There’s no word on a motive.
Thanks to Jeremy Cohn of Global News Toronto for the photographs.
very sad…..thanks TPS for taking the dog for care.
just reviewing the pics. The dog walked into the clinic, with obvious blood on back or side. He walked in. Why was he put down? Money? Am sure in this situation there could have been a community outpouring due to the circumstances. This is such a rare scenario. I feel very sad. I would have contributed to help pay for costs. It was not that bad. Obviously no spinal injury, would not have been able to walk. Poor dog.
I bet you are right Lisa Birch! The vet probably gave the guy some astronomical number and then talked the guy into putting his dog to sleep. In other words, did what they usually do. I really have to wonder how many animals are suffering out there under dining tables because of our caring veterinarians and their astronomical bills. Notice he’s also a pit bull.. hope that had nothing to do with it.
I also agree the public would have donated money to help this dog! How sad!
