A Birch Cliff cookbook serving up family recipes and a dash of local history is now on sale to support celebrations for the 100th anniversary of Birch Cliff Public School.
The cookbook, which sells for $20, contains recipes contributed by students, parents, teachers and staff, according centennial organizing committee co-chair Isabella Favaro.
“There are some parents who are chefs and they contributed their own recipes, which is awesome. There are some recipes that are family favourites and there’s also some real kid favourites,” said Favaro.
The cookbook includes student artwork as well as historical photos from the extensive archives going back to the day Birch Cliff Public School opened on Sept. 5 1916.
Raising money and awareness
The cookbook was produced to raise both awareness and seed money for the centennial celebration being planned for Sept. 23 and 24, 2016.
If all 300 copies are sold, Favaro said the organizers will have $4,000 to purchase supplies, a sign for the school and make necessary down payments.
Plans for the the 100th anniversary celebration are well underway and organizing committee meetings have been well attended by enthusiastic parents, staff and alumni.
Events will include an outdoor ceremony, tours of the school, displays of historical photos and artifacts, the unearthing of a time capsule, as well as an alumni dinner.
Throughout the school year the students at Birch Cliff will be involved in various art, music and history projects to help them learn the rich history of the school and the community.
