Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre needs your help — and your votes!
BBNC has entered the Aviva Community Fund competition, which awards money to organizations that are trying to make a positive change in their community.
Family Mentoring Program
BBNC’s idea is to start a Family Mentoring Program to help families who are new to Canada adapt to life in our country by matching them with a mentor family that is already “Canadianized”.
According to BBNC, Scarborough has over 73,000 newcomers — that equals 27% of the total number of newcomers to Toronto.
These families often struggle with unemployment and/or low incomes. In BBNC’s catchment area, 24% of the population are living on a household income of less than $40,000 per year.

Good luck to BBNC!
great post….I did not know they were in the Aviva competition. 2010 and 2011, a medic friend who had become a quadrapalegic had set up with his wife a therapy based program for those with spinal cord injury. Two years in a row….so many votes with Toronto EMS and friends managed to vote them into the finals (last 10)both years. Final decisions made by a pre-selected panel. They did not receive funds which was disheartening for all who believe. But my point is….VOTE….everyday…support our community. They need numbers to move forward. Glad I know about this. 🙂
