Two people were treated for smoke inhalation Tuesday morning following a two-alarm fire in an apartment unit at the northwest corner of Warden and Danforth Avenues.
Six fire trucks and several ambulances, including an ambulance bus, responded to the fire, which broke out at approximately 9 A.M. in a second-floor unit above the dry cleaners next to the Crossroads Pool Hall.
“Anytime we have a confirmed working fire as we call it, especially if we think there’s any possibility there’s people inside we will immediately ask for more help right off the bat. Then we can attack it from the front of the back at the same time and get a lot of things done at once,” said Platoon Chief Randy Smith.
Firefighters removed several people from different apartment units and everyone declined transportation to hospital, according to Smith. The woman and man with smoke inhalation were treated on site by paramedics. It’s believed their cat died as a result of the fire.
Smith said the fire wasn’t “fully involved” and took a few minutes to put out. Damage to the unit is extensive.
Smith said the fire is believed to have been accidental and investigators are on their way to the scene to determine the cause.
