If you’re interested in local history, you want to get a copy of the free 2018 calendar being distributed by real estate agent Ray Cochrane.
The calendar celebrates the rich history of communities in the Scarborough Bluffs and it really is superb.
Last year’s calendar focussed on Birch Cliff in honour of the 100th anniversary of Birch Cliff Public School.
This year, Cochrane has expanded and created three separate calendars for Birch Cliff, Cliffside and Fallingbrook/Hunt Club.
6,000 copies have been printed and they’re being delivered door-to-door.
Each calendar features short histories of the neighbourhood accompanied by wonderful colourized historical photographs.
The team did a great job combing the archives because there are some photos that even local history buffs may not have seen.
Congratulations to Cochrane and his team (Astrid Bloemen, Andrew Croft and Ashley Ashbee) on a brilliant piece of marketing that you’ll actually want to receive in your mailbox.

Wow !! a lot of memory here , i remember most of the places and even the Birch Cliff theater, saw many shows when i was a kid .

My parents moved me to White Birch Rd in 1952 (65 years ago!!). Shorty after, I was taken to The Bank of Toronto to get my first bank account and I remember it being on the north side of Kingston Rd in one of the storefronts just west of the now Taylor Library.
Unfortunately what remains of that time appears to be in danger of obliteration by the march of condos along Kingston rd, making this record so important to those of us who can remember and even more so for those who cannot. Thanks so much for doing this.
Apparently the Boyd Gang robbed one of these Bank of Toronto locations, the earlier one I believe, before they were jailed and escaped the first time. While on the lam, wooden-legged Lennie Jackson robbed a jewellery store on Kingston Rd. opposite Kalmar Ave. he kicked the elderly man’s face in. My Mum was next door at Morello’s grocery store and she pulled teeth out of the man’s mouth while they awaiting the ambulance.
